Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson is the daughter of British lawyers Jacqueline Luesby (born in Paris) as well as Chris Watson (born in Paris). After moving to Oxfordshire around the age of five, Emma attended The Dragon School. At the age of six, Emma knew that she wanted to be an actress. For some time she attended the Oxford branch of Stagecoach Theatre Arts a part-time theatre academy where she studied singing dancing and acting. When she was ten, she had appeared and played part in a variety of Stagecoach shows and school productions. Casting began in 1999 for Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2001) the film adaptation of British author J.K. Rowling's bestselling novel. Emma was discovered by casting agents through Emma's Oxford theatre professor. David Heyman, the producer of Harry Potter Harry Potter's Sorcerer's Stone and Ron Weasley told Emma after seven auditions that she'd been chosen for these roles. They cast her alongside Daniel Radcliffe Rupert Grint and Rupert Grint. Emma's debut on the big screen in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone which was released in 2001. It was also the most well-received film of the year. The opening Saturday and Sunday ticket sales were record breaking. The film was praised by experts, as was the performance of three young actors. The Daily Telegraph, a well-read British newspaper, was awed by her for her impressive performance. Emma's performance was nominated and received five awards in the film.
